Outdoor Rules
- Side out scoring.
- If there are any ties for 2nd place in pool play a “play in” game will be held. Play in games will be one game to 7 (if time permits), Or rally score to 11.
- The first place team on each net is responsible for turning in the clipboard with wins, losses, and points complete.
- You cannot open hand pass a serve; only a hard driven ball may be open hand (straight, downward trajectory with no upward movement, clearly hit, not rolled or dinked).
- A service tossed may be dropped once as long as no contact was made (this includes catching the ball; it must drop to the ground).
- No let serves (ball hits the net).
- Coed levels will decide at the morning meeting if they want a courtesy rule in effect.
- A block does not count as a touch.
- No redirecting blocks (contact must be made in the direction of the block, no swiping the ball sideways).
- No open hand tips (zero finger controlling of the ball, i.e. only firm hands, fists, knuckles, etc.).
- Hand over sets are only allowed in the Open division.
- Substitutions in doubles and quads for injury will only be allowed if it happens in the first match of the day. You must forfeit that remaining match, but you will still be eligible to continue and have the chance to make playoffs. The player must be level appropriate and agreed upon by all other teams on the net.
- Any substitutions after the first match will be allowed. but your team will be ineligible for playoffs.
- If an injury happens to a member of a quads team, you may continue with three and still be eligible for playoffs.
- A player may not touch the net at any time.
- If you follow through and touch the net even if the ball is down it is still considered a net violation (i.e. there is no “the ball was already down” calls).
- If the lines get pulled up or the net drops during the middle of a play it is a redo.
- A doubles player may enter the opponents court as long as they do not interfere with the opposite team (i.e. contact an opposing player or interfere with their ability to play the ball).
- Each team is allowed 2 time outs per game.
- If your team is scheduled to play and you do not show up to your net within 5 minutes after the tournament staff has been notified your game will result in a forfeit. Your team will then have another 5 minutes to show up or your second game will also result in a forfeit.
- Refs must ref and the ref team has the final say. Respect their call. Players not on the reffing team (i.e. spectators) have no say or sway in the determination of a call.
- If you fail to show up to ref a game or match, your team will forfeit the amount of games that you missed reffing.
- If a situation occurs and you cannot ref for whatever reason, please speak to a tournament staff member to let us know the situation. If you do not we will assume you just missed your assignment.
Have fun
